Looking at getting the 314 and can't decide on which size.
I'm 5'11'' inside leg of 32'', i have actually test rode a 46 and a 50 albeit round the car park.
Interested in anybody who's bought one and which size they went for...i am also
a newbie to real MTBing so any advice appreciated.
Thanks

What did you think of the test? Differences? One feel better than the other?0

Both bikes felt good and i think i am probably borderline on both of them, so hard to judge though just round a car park. Am i better off getting the smaller one which could be tweeked a little (stem maybe)?0

Slightly longer will be better for stability at speed, whereas shorter will be more manouverable at low speeds and better in the air (and slightly lighter). I would probably verge on the side of sizing up as I'd rather shorten the cockpit (shorter stem) to fit it correctly than lengthen it. Putting a longer stem on there will slow the steering and that's not my personal choice - if you shorten it and find the steering too quick you can just put a wider set of bars on to balance it out. Not much you can really do the other way around IMHO (I'm sure I'll be corrected on this )...
A long stem may make it harder to hang off the back on any nasty bits too...
I have a 2009 314 and think it's a great bike. I'm 6'3" and have the 50cm which is slightly on the smaller size. I was between sizes like you, but when I got mine the store had run out of the larger 54cm size and I knew the following years model was going to have a £300 price hike - I decided I was more than happy with the fit and took the plunge.0 -
