Looking for a hybrid for commuting to work (3 miles each way slight hill). Both these bikes in my price range. Any thoughts please?

  • They're both really nice bikes, and at three miles each way a hybrid is probably a good choice. Personally i'd go for the TREK because Lance Armstrong rides a TREK, which allows for tdf day dreaming on the commute to work.

Which ever way you go by a really good lock! and let us know how you get on with your chosen steed...

Again, any of these will be more than adequate.

I ride a Flight from Ridgeback and love it.

I would be very, very, very tempted to go second-hand though. Within weeks of you starting commuting you will be doing your commute in much less than 15 minutes.

And put commuting tyres on whatever you get... You will not regret them.

Can't really comment specifically on any of the bikes you mention, however I recently bought my son a Ridgeback MX16 (kids bike) and I am delighted and suprised at the quality. I will cetainly be looking at Ridgeback for N+1

Back to the original two - The Giant has much cleaner welding than the Trek - and looks a bit tidier - in terms of kit, they're almost identical, so could be as simple as which you like the look of most/which you can get a hold of.

For commuting, you'll want the option of fitting mudguards, rack for panniers etc. - the Giant and Trek certainly provide this, as almost certainly do the others.

If you're looking at Evans, they have a Trek 7.3FX for much the same price as the 7.0FX 9better components):
