Yup... the rim on my front wheel ripped apart today. 6 inch split along the braking surface. Luckily i had just stopped when it gave way, an interesting 'pop' followed by a 'BANG' as the inner exploded. Fortunately i was close to home.

Not really... 5k tops. But has been used all though winter. The split is very perfect, so i'm thinking maybe something got stuck between the rim and brakepad (which i have also now replaced) and "sliced" it.

    Nope. Normal winter wear.

Who needs a wear line when you have an audible warning system?

This is why I went for a disc cross bike.

+1 for brakeless (although you may want to reconsider the gearing)
