Greetings all!

Someone stole my Lemond Reno on Thursday from my back garden in Brockley. Silver and blue frame, Fizik Arione saddle and Shimano RS80 wheels. Less than a month ago it received lovely new 105 brakes and a Dura Ace chain. I'm scouring ebay and Gumtree. Frustratingly, I'm quite sure I know who stole it too but I have no hard evidence apart from their behaviour.

If anyone sees it in Brick Lane market tomorrow (13/06/2010) and recovers it, you'll get £50 (punch the seller in the face and I'll throw in another tenner!)* Just call the police, as the bike has been registered (with frame number) as stolen. I can't go because I'm running a half marathon in St Albans, but I'll be there next Sunday.

Thanks!

On another note, some of you may have remembered me musing over the B'Twin Vitamin. I bought it today as an undesirable hack and commuter to keep me mobile. Brief review after a brief ride: worth every penny, lovely, cushy, stable ride and it came with free lights. The gearing on its single speed is spot on. Also, the staff at Decathlon in Surrey Quays were great! 2 year warranty on parts and 5 on the frame for £70!

Z

*Actually, better not do this

Clouds and Silver linings spring to mind.

Hope you can claim insurance on it.

The silver lining in this case is quite thin!

Thanks for your concern everyone. No sign of it and police have given up but I should get something from the insurance crowd. Unfortunately they are choosing a bike for me - I'd rather choose it myself!

Worth remembering that you're allowed to reject their choice as being an unsuitable replacement (unless it's exactly the same, obviously).

Hi, I've seen a few posts on this or another forum where folks who have had insurance companies try to impose a bike or shop on them have complained enough so that they're been left to choose whatever bike - might be worth a go.

@zn533 - sorry to hear about your loss fella.

Had a similiar one early this year - Boardman Team Carbon from my garden shed - unscrewed the door hinges and levered up a ground anchor that was set into concrete....On the plus side, some deep ebay searching found my parts in Bristol and the Police have been able to convict a guy of handling stolen goods, I got the insurance back, after a fight.

I now have 2 iron bars across the shed and don't ride an expensive bike, just 2 fixies and an MTB.

A guy who lives not far from me has been targeted repeatedly, they have always managed to get in his garage, no matter what he has done. They have cut through frames to nick his bikes and even used his own tools to strip the parts in his own garage!

The secondhand parts trade is massive on high end stuff.

    Sorry for the tough news...

You might want to check out the bikeshed site. Does a nice job of trolling for current bike adds and its easy to scan

I used to work as a loss adjuster and people in the know almost always rejected what the insurance company offered, and it was always fine. What you should do is ask for a contact number at their insurance supplier and say you would like to discuss the replacement direct with them, then let the claims handler know the details have been sorted out. That way everyone is happy, and you could be looking at some excellent discounts on whatever it is that you want. The suppliers are usually on the customer's side too, so they can convince the claims handler that a Specialised Allez isn't an appropriate replacement for a Thingamy Whotsit and you actually should have a Sooper Dooper, if you catch my drift.
