Does anyone out there have experience and feels able to comment? Can one select the area to be printed?

great GPS program - my mate uses it on their PDA and separate GPS unit when cycling.

Its possible to get hold of alot of maps if you know where to look. Whether you go the pay up your hard earned route - like they did, or get for cost of your internet connection route. You can get USGS American maps for free from their website. Whereas Britain OS goes the fleecing you rotton route as always, but have released a few freebies over the years as well as some recently including streetnamed level maps.

Its 'supply and demand' and 'he who controls the spice' type BS with Brit OS and a few other 'paranoid' countries.

with a little techno wizardry you can also get ozimaps maps to work in MM as geotifs calibrated to WGS84 and UTM datum which MM uses.

Get latest copy of globalmapper & ozimap to be able to do this, takes a little faffing and working out but once you got the suss theres a heck of alot of maps to be had!

currently my mate says he has 25K Iceland, most of Europe at 25k and 50k, some of Oz, NZ 25k, all of America from USGS website and some of Canada which can be got for free also.

heard its possible to get hold of other free sources of maps like google maps and change them into geotifs also and use in MM once you know how to calibrate maps properly.

and yes you can print off certain areas you want to but my mate has never had to do this so can't tell you in any more great detail.

oh and never mistake the map for the territory.....

The detail is the same as paper OS maps, so the value is the stuff that google maps etc doesn't give you - pubs, off-road info etc.
They are great for plotting a route - but be aware you do a point to point click rather than the software suggesting one.
In answer to your question, You can select an area to print.

A cheap way in is the National Parks range. 1:50,000 series can be had here for £27.
