Hi,

On My Specialized Allez Sport 27 2010 Road Bike, I have The Following Components:

Shimano Sora - Brake Calipers, Shifters, Front Mech, Chainset & Cassette
Shimano Tiagra - Rear Mech

However, I Want To Upgrade To The Follwoing By Buying The Following Off Ebay:

Shimano Ultegra Front Brake Caliper
Shimano Ultegra Front Mech
Shimano 105 Right Brake Lever/Shifter
Shimano 105 Rear Mech

I Want To Know:

Can I Mix All Of These Components Together?

Can I Use A Shimano Sora Left Brake Lever/Shifter & A Shimano 105 Right Brake Lever/Shifter Together?

Can I Use A Shimano Sora Rear Brake Caliper With A Shimano Ultegra Front Brake Caliper?

Can I Use A Shimano Sora Triple Chainset With A Shimano Ultegra Front Mech?

Can I Use A Shimano 105 Rear Mech WithA Shimano Sora Chainset & Cassette?

Thanks,

You could use the brake calipers, I think most are interchangable.

I think you can mix and match 105 and Ultegra 10 speed, but you would not be able to use the 105 rear mech with sora, as Sora is 8 speed and usue an HG50 chain, 105 and Ultegra is different.

I think you can also mix and match the barke levers, but not sure, they just pull for braking or index.

That is the oddest upgrade question i have seen on here
Anyway, here is my 2d worth-

1- Yes as long as the right shifter and rear cassette are the same ie 9 speed or 10 speed.

2- Yes but it might look a bit odd.

    3- Yes no problem.

4- Only if the Ultegra front mech is a triple but i would say don't bother changing the front mech it will make no difference.

    5- Yes no problem.

    Good luck :D

I've used a 105 5600 rear mech with 8 spd sora and it worked ok. Not much point in doing it though. Of all the upgrades, I think the only worthwhile one would be the brake calipers as Sora brakes are gash. Unless you're willing to change the whole set up to 105 that is.

Totally agree, this is a 2010 bike, why mess around mixing levers that will feel different? Like Garry says, just do the brakes but make sure they're 6600 Ultegra's though as the 6700 use a different ratiio! Otherwise you could do the groupset, but personally I'd rather just buy a higher end bike than do that

    Hi,

    Ok Thanks For All That:

So I Can Use A 105 Rear Mech With 9 Speed Cassette & Shimano Sora Chainset?
I Can Mix The Brake Calipers?
And I Can Use An Ultegra Front Mech With Shimano Chainset & 9 Speed Cassette?

    Thanks,

What do you expect to achieve? There's nothing that's so wrong with Sora (apart from the brakes) that any of the above will improve upon. A 105 rear mech will make no difference whatsoever. Still, it's your money...

Assume he just wants people to think he's got '105' when they see the bike hey Gary  To mix shifters though is lunacy
