If you do check out the Allez and like it I have seen that Specialized own Concept stores are doing 12 months 0% if that helps at all.

Hi, new to the forum and road riding at 42 years young.
I am also looking at a bike within this budget and was looking at the Raleigh airlite 300 or the b-twin 2 from Decathlon, both in the £440-£500 range. I'm intending to look at both this week and get going!
I am so glad to have come across this site, the sharing of information is remarkable and just what a novice like myself needs.

One of the cycling mags (I forget which one) about 6 months ago rated the b-twin 2 and the Trek 1.2 as the best of a bunch of 5 'entry level' bikes. Couldn't find anything wrong with the b-twin at all despite looking pretty hard!!

I went for the Trek on the back of it and love it. But I would stress, go for the 2nd hand option there are some stunners to be had if you're patient!!!

Thanks for the tip though I'm a bit nervous about the second hand option to be honest, still lots to think about.

I got a clearance Vanquish last November for £240 NEW. Carbon fork, double butted 7005 frame, Tiagra gears/shifters etc a cracking first bike a 2007 model but who cares!?
It's my first road bike in years and I wasn't sure whether I would take to it again but this bike has got me hooked again- so one day it may get relegated to a commuter but for now it's perfect. Just need some stickers to cover the decals so the brand snobs don't hassle me....

For that money I'd get a CAAD 4.5
