The first two are launching in July but are largely in place already - are any of you using them already? Are they good, bad or plain stupid? Post your tales of superhighway cycling...

I use them a lot. A good thing for London and a great message to car drivers. A shame it's not more like some of the dutch system, but Rome wasn't built in a day. There are still some issues that are going to need to be ironed out from a cyclists point of view. TFL and the Major have to look after all road users, so i think we should be greatful that we are getting more, even if it's not up to scratch with what we want.

Thanks for the input Gaz - and nice to meet you the other day by the way (on the Nigel Hardy ride). Launch day today - are the signs all up as promised?

Why not just call them super wide bike lanes? Cause from the stuff I've seen on them, and videos of people cycling them on Youtube, that is all they are, with loading bays in them too, bus stops in them.

I'm not sure I understand that. What do you mean?

  • I was on the CS3 route for a short way this evening. I was joking with another cyclist stopped at a big blue ASL-type box near Blackwall about all the pictures of bikes on the road and about how it gets drivers used to driving over bikes when a bus pulled into the box and joined in the conversation. The bus driver said ''This is the mayor's big idea'' to which I replied ''Yes, and you're a naughty boy for driving in it.''

It was a perfectly good-natured chat about the blueness of it all. The bus driver was aware of the 2 cyclists in front of him so there was no danger and it wasn't obvious where else he could have stopped without blocking traffic behind him. But I do get the feeling that people have, while the route is still being joined up, got used to ignoring them.
