Hoping to buy one of these in next few weeks, preferably to carry four bikes, 2 adult & 2 kids bikes.
Ones i'm considering are

Not tested it yet as it arrived yesterday but I've got the Atera with the 4th bike extension. It's got a good reputation from the online digging I've done and it's certainly a solid bit of kit from the inspection I gave it when it arrived.

I'll be keen to see what others say that have used it, but I'd be surprised/disspointed if it gets slagged off.

I'm in the same boat as BigG67 - recently bought an Atera Strada DL 2-bike version for a trip to France - not used it in earnest yet, but it fits to the car literally in seconds, and seems fairly easy to fix bikes onto it. When it's slid away from the car, access into the hatch/boot is very good. The rack is quite light, so easy to manhandle, and is narrow enough to fit into my boot, which is handy. Seems a quality bit of kit, which you'd expect for that price! Hopefully it'll prove its quality in use.

Mines only for 2 bikes, but I can see how fitting 4 bikes to any of these type of racks might need a bit of a system to be worked out whereby the securing arms, pedals & handlebars all manage to co-exist in close proximity.

Be aware that for the racks, such as the Strada, with full-function light-boards (i.e. with reversing lights and fog lights), you'll need 13-pin electrics on your towbar. If you have 7-pin single electrics used in conjunction with a 7-pin-to-13-pin adaptor, the lights will be limited to rears, brakes and indicators/hazards. Probably not an issue for most people.

I'd also be interested in reading feedback about the Tradekar Saffier, as I know someone who may be in the market for one.

    I use:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Thule-9502-Towbar ... 439ea7aa2c
It is for two bikes and a superb piece of kit. Easy fitting and very secure
Thule also do 3 & 4 bike versions

I have a Thule 3 bike version, which is adaptable enough to cope with a tag-a-long and kids bike. V secure but pricey and heavy to lug around since it's virtually all steel. Should outlast a few cars though! Happy to provide more info if required.
  • I thought Thule is making its bike carriers out of aluminum. My Atera Strada DL2 is out of steel. That I'm pretty sure about.
