Your back brake failed? I don't see the problem with that. If your front failed you'd be in serious shite though.
  • does this yeehaamcgee bloke just comes on here to pick fault

    yes.

To be fair, if you don't know how to use your brakes I think it's only fair.

    It is, yes.
I don't suffer fools gladly though, and I really don't understand the "hey let's all just agree" attitude here.
Sometimes people are idiots, and I tend to speak quite freely, and don't mince my words.

Lesson learned in relatively benign environment I think. Good job you weren't in the Dark Peak! You could have been really stuck there.
  • i reckon it was a good route to test ourseves on as we a bit new to this
will definatly give it another bash soon we just need to get our bikes working

my Magura Julie hp brakes still remain a mystery to me though, i have bled them several times even sent them to a bike shop to be set up and same thing happens every time
they work for a while then suddenly the lever pressure goes and i have no back brake
I am at a bit of a loss on this one
do i persevere with them ?

at least we werent cursed with punctures this week !!!!

Oh, and reading a bit more of the thread, you really do need to lighten up a bit. The area around Youlgreave is not that wild.

We've got a couple of guys just starting to find out what great fun mountain biking is, just learning that standing at the bottom of a hill, soaking wet and freezing cold, scratching your head over a knackered bike, wondering how far you're going to have to walk to the nearest pub and how you're going to get home from there when you reach it, is just part of the fun.

Similar yet less severe for me. Kona Darkside at Mabie a managed to snap my mech/bend the hangar in towards the hub. At probably the furthest point from the car park (at least I had the sun). Needless to say i've never done the darkside again.

Shit does happen, but as they say, prior planning and preperation prevents a poor performance; i.e. be prepared for anything.

Not a dig at the OP at all, infact i think we could probably all learn a lesson from this, make sure you've got every eventuality covered; better to have something and not need it, than need it and not have it.

We take part in a sport that takes us to some amazing places, but some of them are bloody remote, we need to be responsible, rather than just having the "be reet" attitude.

In conclusion, enjoy the sport  but be safe kids.

No Cotton, I had Nike ACG trousers on over lycra Cycling shorts, long sleeves compression base layer & cycling top & HH water/windproof but lightweight jacket on & fleece beanie under my Helmet & still got pretty wet thought it dried of quite quick. The crap Hiking Shoes were the worst though, still sopping wet & not great on the pedals either.

No self respecting mountain rescue team would come to the aid of a "mountain biker" wearing Lycra :D
Hiking shoes are too flexible for cycling, you do need decent shoes with a firm sole if your going to be cranking all day long, You'd be amazed own how much energy you can waste wearing flexible soles.
