We're on holiday in Poole this summer and I'm planning to take my mountain bike to escape the kids for a day. Can any one recommend any good singletrack or downhills in the area?

Catch the ferry to Sandbanks and ride around Studland dunes
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

There's some nice riding on the isle of purbeck.
Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.
  • I'd recommend the Purbecks too, plenty of hills and some nice Singletrack. MBR did a ride around there in a recent issue which you can get free from MTBsharp.co.uk

Alternatively you could try the Isle of Wight, although from Poole it would probably mean a whole day out. Wightlink ferries do a 2 for 1 offer on footpassengers (including cyclists) which you can get from their website. The riding is very similar to the Purbecks (chalk downs) but it tends to be a bit quieter. Again I think there are routes on MTB sharp
