I think the consensus from similar threads is that the best option is to add it as a specific item to your home insurance.

M&S insurance is quite well thought of.

Be prepared to pay in the region of £170 a year to be covered for accidental damage with a company such as CycleGuard.

+1 to forgo accidental cover and add to home contents insurance with Marks and Spencer.

are you saying that M&S will cover for accidental damage on their policies?

I don't believe so. Accidental damage is the real killer on cycle insurance premiums.
I wouldn't insure a road bike for accidental damage and would be careful.
    However, it's up to you.

I have 2 bikes (total value £4500) isured as special items on my house insurance with Coop Insurance. They are covered for accidental damage except when racing. Cost was about £60 extra. Check with your insurer.

Will have to check out the home contents myself. I was going to go for that cycleguard thing when my new bike turns up... It's expensive though.

I've stil got an issue with having another crash and wanting to rely on the insurance to sort things out for me. Is cycleguard like 'fully comp'?

    Not correct.
I have 6 bikes insured at an extra cost of £70 year.
Unfortunately (for insurance company) but fortunately for me, (not injury wise) 13 months ago was paid £2500 for new frame , components, clothes and glasses following bad crash and more recently following a not so bad crash, my bars went into top tube of pinarello prince so about to get bars and levers and new frame.
It is covered as contents which are used away from home.

That's my understanding too. I've not long taken out an M&S policy for that reason. They cover any unspecified items up the a value of £4,000. If you select the Premium version this covers full accidental damage, and if you select the "away from home" option then this extends the accidental damage to this.

I don't know the position on racing, but as I don't race it's not an issue for me. I should check out their position on Sportives though, as I do one or two of these.

    Poor English.

Link to a website in signature that he supposedly "recommends".

Zebediah, my I politely suggest you naff off. I'm sure you do a wonderful job making money out of Asbestos victims but this is a cycling forum and next time you google "insurance forum" in order to post adverts for your business please waste someone elses time.

    I feel better now......
  • Just yesterday Evans called me asking if I was renewing the insurance on my 1 year old Trek 4300. I've since bought a £1300 road bike and I asked what the two together would be...£195!!! No thanks.
