Hi,

will soon be removing the Truvativ Powerspline BB from my 2008 Giant Terrago, then getting my LBS to face the frame ahead of fitting my new Deore chainset when it arrives from Evans.

Just wanted to check about removing the Truvative cups and thread direction. My understanding is that the cup on the right hand drive side will be left hand threads so I turn clockwise to loosen and on the non-drive side the threads will be right hand threads so I turn anti-clockwise to loosen.

Is my understanding correct ? First time changing a BB so want to get it right and not knacker my frame !

Thanks in advance for your experience and knowledge.

IIRC you'll need a powerspline BB tool and crank extractor too (unless you have the silver-ringed self-extracting type crank bolts)

The crank extractor and BB socket that came in my Lidl tool kit were all I needed to change mine.

Yeah, my powerspline crank bolts are the self extracting kind and my Edinburgh Bike Co-op toolkit includes the tool which fits the bottom bracket cups so I think I am good to go.

Just got hold of this tool for fitting the Deore Hollowtech 2 BB cups and crank preload cap: http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/bicycle-w ... tools.html

Funnily enough, that's exactly the (cheap) tool-kit I used! The BB tool was a little difficult to keep located in place whilst torquing-up, but it worked well enough and the whole kit was a similar price to an individual Park Tools BB tool 8)

Ok, now fitted my Hollowtech chainset - everything went like a dream, didn't even need to adjust my front mech the new chain rings are in the exact same position as the old :D

Quick question, do I just leave the black plastic cap (tensioner) in the left hand crank arm ?
