I'm going to be in the market for a new lightish hardtail frame soon and am currently looking at the Rock lobster tig team sl and the On one scandal.

Budget has an absolutley max of £300 and it's for no more than 100mm forks, geometry wise these to seem similar and i'm not to bothered about trying before buying (i never do) just wondered if anyone has previous experiance of both of these, also open to any other options. Cheers.

    Lobster geometry is nice...

Got a Rock Lobster Tig Teal SL and it's a great wee bike. 2 of my mates also have them and they are really into their hardtails and for the money they are superb. Don't know if you can get one through the cycle to work scheme as that's what I did, a whole heap of bike for £550 from Merlin!!!!!!

I've just up'd from a 100m Rockshox Reba to a Fox F120 RL fork and it was a great move. It now just steams down the hills with no bother. Lost a little in the uphill’s as on the steep stuff the front end wants to lift a little bit more but well worth the sacrifice I would say.

Not seen or tried the Scandal but would recommend the Rocklobster.

On my second tig team SL after the the first one got nicked. I tried a couple of other frames which I didn't get on with so got another Lobster. Great frame for the money IMO :)

Both weigh about the same and are both great frames the only difference is geometry. The Scandal is a bit longer in the top tube than the Lobster. When I tried out a 19 inch Lobster I felt like I needed a layback post on my 18 inch Scandal I use an inline post.

Not saying either is better its just my preference for a slightly longer bike you probably need to compare the 2. If you know anyone with an On-one Inbred they are exactly the same frame geometry as a Scandal. If you know anyone with a Merlin Malt they are the same geometry as a Lobster.

I have just got rid of my Scandal (not because it was bad :) ) and I have to say it was a really good frame. Nicely long and low. The only thing I found was the back end was quite flexy for my liking. I am quite big and heavy though (nearly 16 stone) which may have contributed to the flex.

Can't comment on the Lobster frames although that was my other choice whe I got the Scandal and they always have high praise whenever you read about them.

I have a Scandal which is an excellent bike, very light, fast and loves to climb. I got the frame originally to use as a rigid commuter however enjoyed riding it so much I upgraded it for off road and havent regretted doing so at all. It can be a little unforgiving at the back on rough stuff but I think thats more where I'm spoilt with my full suss bike.
Wow great ship man. Looks like a fish, flies like a fish, steers like a cow.
