Okay, a bit of a beginner here. I had a spoke snap on me and aside a horrid buckle that can be sorted I need some new spokes. I believe these are the right ones...

but I think these are all the wrong lengths.

Being a novice I am rather nervous about taking a spoke off and haven't the right tool so does anyone have a spec. for this wheel that will give me the exact length - it's around 280mm but given that there are sometimes as little as 2mm between these spokes there is very little room for error.

Take your wheel to your LBS / experienced wheelbuilder - the chances of you being able to sort this yourself successfully are pretty slim if you've never trued a wheel before - particularly a low-spoke wheel like the WCS'.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks man, that's what I'm going to do anyway but the fellow said he wouldn't use a bladed spoke (presumably because he would have as much hassle as me finding the right size) but I would! I could take it elsewhere but to add to that conundrum is the fact that I know he is best in the area at truing wheels.

Guess I'll give it to him and get the spokes ent direct to him when he can tell me the dimensions.

I'm thinking he might have something in using a different spoke. The "hassle" of finding the right one is not to be underestimated. I say let him fix it his way for now and later, if and when you find the correct spoke, have him put that one in. It won't have any affect on the wheel either way, other than looks(if anyone looks that close).

take the broken one out and measure it. i assume it snapped at the elbow so this should be possible. it may have stretched a little bit (1mm) but its no big deal if you get some 2mm longer, the deep section of your rims means it wont affect anything. its better to be a few mm longer than shorter. a spoke wrench and cassette removal tool are very handy to have.
  • Thanks people, I might just let him do that then. What's a right pain is that I've found the right type.

Can't measure the broken one because as I seem to remember it wasn't all there but thanks again people.
