Needed to get to bike shop for a refund ... took out the mtb and dressed 'down'
No helmet.. no hi viz... sporting a footie jersey ..normal 3/4 DucknCover shorts ... basically camoflaging into the mindset of the stereotypical driver of just being ' a bloke on a bike' pottering about town and not a roadie with all the trappings of elitism in form of 'special' clothing and gear.

All saw me... no one got angry with me..no stupid close passes. even made two deliberate errors in road positioning just for the hell of it (as I was enjoying the pottering). actually got almost sympathetic looks as against potential aggression that you could normally expect on a busy Monday morning.... even taking ages and ages crossing a junction in a silly little gear.

the only clue that could have given me away was my footwear - spd shoes... but no one 'clocked'.

Aint life weird.....?

Maybe they think that you could be them on a saturday jaunt to the park with the kids dressed like that, and there but for the grace of god.....

A £3grand MTB looks more like the usual one-in-every-shed-in-England fare than a £200 road bike and magic eye lycra does.

Is this really surprising? A bloke on a mountain bike in civvies is treated more leniently than someone dressed like they know what they're doing on the roads

    You have a point there....
also brings to the mind if I am being wholly honest, the last time I enjoyed riding my road bike 100% .... well it wasnt in the UK for sure.
