I am buying a new chainset for my do it all bike.

I am attracted to carbon Centaur asthetically, and I like the weight. BUT, my brain says go alloy. Its a lot cheaper and only 100grams or thereabouts heavier.

My question is. Why carbon over alloy. Will I tell the difference when pedalling?????

    Carbon v alloy?

As you said carbon is a bit lighter & some would say it looks better.
Carbon generally costs more. From a performance perspective you'll notice no difference.

Go for whichever one you like the look of. 100g will make not a jot of difference.

No. You'll notice the difference when gazing lovingly at your bike, and in your bank account. Only you can balance those against each other.

The days of gazing lovingly at it are long gone, though it is a handsome beast.

I think functionality first, so I am probably am going alloy. But, the carbon looks so damn good. I rid off road on the road bike maybe 2 or 3 days a week (off road commute) so thats why i'm thinking not carbon.

Plus, there;s always other things to sped the money one!
