…or are more and more motorists taking less and less notice of red lights? It seems like everyday there are more motorists that just carry on when the traffic lights have changed against them. I always thought that it was breaking the law. Perhaps i'm wrong?

its such a common thing in the this part of east london though here we not only have the one's that carry on when the light has turned red but people usually young lads overtaking you from behind when you are stopped at the lights, they do coz they know the timing of the lights coming in other direction'..all the bad cats in the bad hats..'0

Don't see it that much down here I must admit. Usually treated fairly well by cars. Do get odd few numpties though. Young guys throwing stuff or just shouting, or grannies just pulling out, but they seem to do that to me in the car aswell so least they spread it around0

You do get some idiots around here, today some guy in a small truck overtook about 7 cars at a red light on a single lane road, shoved his way back into the left hand lane, and turned off without indicating 20 metres after the traffic light :evil:And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Good grief. What a nobber.
I must say, we were sitting in traffic once in morning rush hour. Some woman with kids in the back, obviously far more important than all of us did similar, but met a police van - with full compliment in the back - coming the other way.
Oh how we laughed.0 -

Can't help but notice all these posts are about cars shooting red lights - sat at lights in Folkestone t'other day and a chap on a look kg461 undertook 6 cars to go through a red light. What an absolute penis - does us no favours.0

I don't want to start a debate about the whole cyclists and red light thing but your right there, doesn't do us any favours.

It's generally been getting better lately, with only one or two out of a group of between six and a dozen being pillocks.
But Friday morning I was at a red light when I was the only one of seven to stopRiding on 5310 -

It rather comes down to the fact that the rules apply to everybody. Cyclists can't bleat about the unfairness of it all if they don't adhere what applies to all. I'm keeping that in the third person to allow for the majority (I hope) of cyclists that do it right.0 -
I went through a red light yesterday and got thanked by a policeman! It ain't every day that happens... (Bike and hairdresser's car at lights, big blue-lighted sireny thing coming up fast behind. Hairdresser, evidently lost in a reverie about the long-overdue return of the mullet, seemed incapable of getting his car out of the way so I got my bike out of the way.) The police driver acknowledged me whilst undertaking the hairdresser at speed. Hairdresser didn't even seem to notice...0

I have heard of people moving past a red light to get out of the way of emergency vehicles only to get snapped by a camera. No amount of remonstrating will get you off the ticket, even proof from the emergency services.
Probably didn't want to risk a ticket.
I went to Manchester yesterday. First time I've seen people overtake moving traffic (usually on the approach to a junction), half on the otherside of the road, filtering as if they were on a motorbike
Glad I don't live there any more0 -
The bit that really grumbles me is when car drivers park in the green cycle box at traffic lights. To be fair probably 75% of the time its taxi drivers and private hire cars who always have priority on the road anyway as we all know.
For their impatients I usually thank them by cycling im front to where I should be, I then set off nice and slow instead of my usual sprint start.
Ids their journey so important for 5 yards?
I also see so many cars (and cyclists) jumping red lights.Instead of the local authorities putting up more and more speed cameras they should be putting up traffic light cameras instead as these are a genuine safety area.
All money made should go in the resurface Britian fund.0 -

When people complain to me about cyclists going through red lights I tell them about the motorists who routinely (round these parts , SW London) continue to sail through after the lights have changed against them.
'Ah that's different' they say.
