D Links / Chain
got a two cracked side plates in my chain, Shimano HG-73
are the D links any good / reliable or should I go for a new chain?
can I remove more then three link's from the chain whitout shortening the chain to much?
are there any other chains I should consider replacing the Shimano HG-73 with?

If you remove 3 links it will probably be too much, you would have to check its performance on the outer chainring and largest rear sprocket, see how much pull there is on the mech.n You didn't say how old or how many miles it has done, my guess is it's at least 2 years in which case bin it and get a SRAM chain. I wouldn't bother with Shimano, have no faith in them at all. I had the same problem with one last year.0

18 months old and probably 1K in all weathers and hadn't been off the bike just cleaned in situ. Ended up buting new chain as I found 3 more links broken. Chain had jumped the front cogs on a couple of occasions come to think of it so this may have been when damage has occured0
