My first roadbike ever, at the tender age of 35. I have a touch of buyers remorse. Make me feel better Bikeradar.

You will love it. My first roadie was a heap of junk with downtube shifters. And I loved it. Every time I get on the maxima I'm reminded why buyer's remorse doesn't apply to bikes.

+1. Reaction first time I rode the Jetstream: 'Weeeeeee' :)
First time I rode the Viner (first road bike in over a decade): 'Wooooooooah' :) Money well spent on the pair of them, niggles etc notwithstanding.
You have nothing to feel bad about. To quote one of my favourite bands, 'No remorse, no repent'!!!

Why? Looks like a perfectly decent bike to me...

Buyer's remorse takes only one form when it comes to bikes.

Regretting that you didn't buy something more expensive.

Buyers remorse is regretting not buying it sooner.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    nice !

you'll get a lot fitter by getting out and riding it - better than a gym

Nice bike with a very decent groupset.

One thing you're not going to do is look at it in a few months and say, "I really wish I hadn't spent to much on that" :-) Buying quality kit is always worth the extra.

I have no sense of remorse after spending a grand yesterday on new bike and wheels

no one would question spending a lot on petrol, then tax, insurance, repairs etc and people are miserable in cars

I like riding my bike, it keeps me fit and its fun

like others have said, the only remorse will be you didnt buy it sooner

6 weeks ago I paid the insurance on the wifes car, £360, and then tax, £90. She got a service and MOT, £300.

Yesterday, having had trouble with starting it up, she had the starter motor replaced, another couple of hundred quid gone. All up this year, thats £1000 just to keep it on the road, and thats not counting petrol in the tank.

By comparison I won't spend anywhere near that much this year on my bikes or on gear and will do probably more than twice the mileage.

So, the only reason I can think of for "Buyers Remorse" over your new bike would be not riding it!

  • Thank you BikeRadar. I feel much better now. Will feel even better when the bike arrives.

In fact, i think you might have hit the jackpot as you have avoided the mistake of buying a hybrid first, the biggest mistake people make here. Those who havent got a road bike can only guess what a true bike rides like. So well done!!!!

  • Ok...an update. It turned out that the S20 I had ordered was out of stock. I therefore got the cheaper S30 instead (more goodwill from the wife). I've had it for a week now and I LOVE IT. Why on earth didn't I get a road bike earlier???? Why? WHY?

For those who are pondering on hybrid vs roadie. Get whatever suits your needs, but get a road bike.

Hmm, well i got a road bike a while back and really havent enjoyed it much :-( I cant get the riding position right, first time i rode it both tyres punctured, second puncture causing a crash!!

I also need to carry a lot of stuff for work, i havent tried loading it with a rack but i lack confidene in riding it loaded so i am afraid the MTB is still my main bike.

I have a hybrid now, in bits as it needed a bit of work, but that rides well too so at the mo, i aint sold on the road bike!!

You aren't entitled to buyer's remorse until you've bought new wheels, saddle, pedals (and shoes, obviously) upgraded to new shifters, got a carbon seatpost and winter bike.
