gears without fears
Greetings!
We've picked up an umpteenth-hand road bike for my wife (Tommasini for £120!!)
It's an 8 speed set-up, geared 12-23 at the back and 42-52 at the front which is a bit tall for her. How big a small sprocket, or how small a small front ring can we use without putting the derailleurs beyond their limits?
Thanks!

39t front ring if it's Campag, 38 on Shimano. You will easily get away with a 27 or 28t sprocket on the back.0
