Having intermittent problems with the avid disc brakes on my new mtb. One ride they'll rub like crazy, the next they're seemingly fine. Not restricted to front or back. I've tried to prise the pads apart with a screwdriver but to avail. Any thoughts?

  • try loosening the mounting bolts, give the lever a good squeeze (the caliper itself should move if you have undone the right bolts) and then tighten the caliper bolts up again

    this should align the caliper

what wee the conditions like when they rub?

and do you remove the wheels between rides?

No change in conditions, it's been dry in manchester for weeks!

Yes, remove wheels after every ride for storage...

then you are not getting the wheels exactly in the same place each time and the pads are re-bedding in each time. Normal.
