Removing links - KMCX10SL

I have a new KMCX10SL chain and I need to remove about 6 links for it to fit. I have tried this with a chain tool but it just seems to get stuck as the, bolts I suppose, are hollow.

Any advice before I go cap in hand to my LBS for help??

    never had any problems myself. Sounds like the tool has a thin pin?

    It was the tool. Tried it with another and worked first time. The pin in the first tool had somehow got bent :shock:
