Hello,

has anyone had any questionable speed readings on there device?

  • My Garmin 305 sometimes has fleeting moments of insanity. My top speed for a TT last year was 185 mph, according to the Garmin. It was a PB, but not that good a time!

No but I have had questionable calories. I'm not talking the usual problem of them just being 'generous' As I've set my user profile as 65% of my weight to average it out - I'm talking a sudden jump mid ride. Last night 950 odd calories on a 70 min ride I then looked back in my history and noted I'd apparently burnt 65,550 the other day on a 3 hr ride....! Hmmmm this is a new problem so not sure how much it will continue. Very annoying!
  • last night was the first time i have had any speed reading problems, was putting the hammer down on a decent and got a post ride reading of 51mph!! not sure it really was.

    Hi,

My speed readings have proven to be both accurate and depressingly low on my 705 :D

HR though seems to have a mind of its own. I was allegedly hammering out 240 bpm while rolling at a gentle 11mph last Sunday. :/

I agree with above too, the Calories burnt seems way high - something to do with the more accurate algorhythms requiring a licence fee to be paid or something like that? I dunno.

    :D

The calorie algorithym is known to be way off.

From memory, I think taking about 75% of the quoted figure is more accurate.

If you're using the GPS to provide your speed readings then with the inherent error from GPS, and a short time between adjacent readings, you can get speed spikes. I found myself breaking the sound barrier on a turbo once

If you use the GSC-10 speed sensor, it isn't susceptible to such spike though.
