Plenty of options, timing wise it just depends exactly where in B'ham you are :

    Cannock

    Sutton Park

    Clent

or even just blasting along the Canals
  • Try to get to cannock chase - waymarked trails that are easy for a evening blast. Follow link in sig for address or tomtom markers.

Sutton Park, Clent and lickey hills are both good too, but unless you have a guide or guidebook you'll probably miss the best stuff.

Sandwell Valley is an option too.

isn't finding the best stuff part of the fun?

Sutton Park...good too, but unless you have a guide or guidebook you'll probably miss the best stuff.

If you are expecting any decent riding, Sutton park is the wrong place to look.

clent can be a pain in the bum what with all the folks wandering around aimlessly, takes some hunting to find things up there to boot. admittedly a fair bit further out, but Kinver Edge and neighbouring Millions Woods have obvious enough routes for the newcomer with plenty of other good tracks to stumble upon without straying too far away. Kinver can get a bit busy, Millions is always near empty (consequently there's the occasional doggers to avoid).
alternately, like someone said, the canals are good for a general blast. especially now the sodding geese have got over the angry parent stage (other areas may vary - seems everything breeds early in netherton  )

Im from the same area as spud face and all his suggestions are options although i find Million Woods hard going in the sandy conditions. Having said that i only pass through it after climbing up from the canal and then heading towards enville/kinver.

BUT, I would seriously recommend going over Cannock Chase. You will not be dissapointed. Ive just come back from riding Cli-Machx near Machynlleth and although i really enjoyed it i feel cannock is a much better ride if you do the full loop.

Does anyone have a map for Clent Hills please? I'm also working away but for the next 12 month.

Staying in Bromsgrove if that's any help for any more reccomendationsof rides over this way, local knowledge would be appreciated. Type of riding I normally do is natural technical singletrack and trails centres.

    Cheers

You are not far from the Wyre Forest,. There is a group of riders that meet up for evening rides (Wednesdays I think). Check out the thread below.
