New member here. Been Mountain biking for close on 12 months and i've well and truly got the bug! I have gone from Entry level Hardtail to Base Full susser before tiring of creaks and niggles and plumping for my new toy which is an Orange Crush 2010. It has some nice mods already like Limited edition White DT Swiss wheels with the obligatory hope hubs.. However, I would like to do away with some gears and make the gearing as bombproof as poss. I can't afford the Hammerschmitt (?) system and was hoping someone on here could give me some tips for say, a £200 budget? In the words of Terry Tibbs, Orange Crush mods.... Talk to me! Jon.

I had looked at those and they seem well priced (20% off at Wiggle) at just over £100. I have to be honest i'm a total mechanical novice when it comes to bikes... Would that be a straight swap or would the whole gearing ratio system need messing with? Also, would the stock shifters be compatible? If these are silly questions then sorry but a wise man once said 'To teach is to learn all over again' Thanks for the reply, Jon.0

All should fit fine - you'll need a shorter and preferably new chain and to adjust the front derailer.0

Yep, what SS said. alternatively, you could go for a single ring up front and run a chain guide. Even simpler and more bombproof. I swear by my single ring setup! (still managed to climb glentress and inners on a 36t single ring up front and an 11-32 cassette!)0
