Going on a stag do to Mallorca (Palma) on the 15th July, and was thinking of going a couple days early and get some road riding in. Just 1 day rides, not touring.

Has anyone been?

Would it be easy to just go out riding each day or better to find a cycling tour company?

Any route suggestions?

And would I be able to ride from the airport to Palma?

Great roads, easy to ride yourself. Airport to Palma would be not much fun. If it was me for a couple of days I would forget taking the bike and book one through the link below. You can then get the bus from airport to Palma, bus from Palma to Puerto Pollensa takes 1 hour and procycle is 2 minutes from terminus. The best riding is on the North of the island and PP is an ideal starting point, you could then either leave the bike with probike overnight and bus back to return next day or ride back to Palma finishing your ride in PP the next day.

Flights booked. Now to hire a bike. Procyclehire look good and they deliver it to your hotel.

Think we'll be staying in Shagaluf...

when waving the cars paast as you round a bend do not do so with an extended index finger. That is the only way i found to really wind them up. Apparently it is very rude.
Apart from that you will probably fing the drivers very tolerant of cyclists.

the3 palma bit is a mess. you need to study the cycle route from the end of the motorway where you transfer to a nice cycle path along the coast for a while then turn into town to find the way through. Coming back from or going to east of palma get onto the coastal path asap to bypass the city. I found the city cycling fun, but you need a good map and forethought.

If you follow up on Solis' suggestion, here's a list of some hire places in Puerto Pollensa:-

They may not all do roads bikes.

I went last Autumn and checked out prices in a few places. Based on price I arranged to hire from Rent March, but when we turned up in the morning, at the agreed time, it was shut. After hanging around for a while waiting,we scooted over to Pro Cycle Hire. Pricier, but the service is spot on.

Pollensa is good, much of it akin to being next to a lake rather than the sea, and a great place to cycle from. I'm not one for going back to somewhere I've already been, but I hope to return to Pollensa later this year if possible.

    Have fun!

Do Procycle deliver to Shagaluff, other side of the island? Palma bus to pollensa is a pain stops everywhere. Best to book the Hopper from the airport, saves the cab fare [ripoff] to Palma.
The bike shop just off the front in shagaluff is run by an X TDF rider. got pics of his stage victory on the wall.
I was riding in Mallorca 4 weeks ago and thought bike hire prices had gone through the roof. we paid less to hire a car! Luckily we had our own bikes. ProBike were looking for E160 for a week. Admitadly for a carbon bike but that was all they had.

When I was in Arenal last Feb (09) the basement of the hotel Taurus Park was home to the Fred Rompelberg bike tour outfit / shop and he hired out excellent bikes (IIRC - they were Ultegra equipped and looked pretty new). Might be worth a try and easier to get to from Lagerluf. July is low season (for cycling) so you should contact Fred or wife Tine first to check.

Watch out for the tourist hire car traffic in July though.
