Sperm health in cyclists

I'm doing a piece on sperm health through the decades...so trying to find men in their 20s through to 70s to get their sperm tested. Each case study would get £150 and have to be named and photo'd, but would give any tri/cycling club etc a big plug in the piece as way of thanks. Specifically, I'm trying to find fit and healthy chaps in their 50s+ who can prove that by looking after yourself your sperm can stay healthy (and as healthy as 20-somethings who abuse their bodies). Let me know asap if you or someone you know might be interested. NB this wouldn't involve taking any time off work and should be a very easy pay cheque...

thanks.

    What would a fifty + year old chap be wanting with all this healthy sperm anyway? :shock:

    You'd do better asking over at the CTC forum, plenty of silver surfers over there. :wink:

    You may have trouble in linking improved sperm health to cycling as the opposite is usually quoted;

    Bicycling.
    Bicycling has been linked to impotence in men and also may affect the sperm count. Pressure from the bike seat may damage blood vessels and nerves that are responsible for erections. Mountain biking, which involves riding on off-road terrain, exposes the perineum (the region between the scrotum and the anus) to more extreme shocks and vibrations and increases the risk for injuries to the scrotum.

    Well, I abused my body and cycled (who doesn't abuse thier body in their 20s?) and went on to father triplets, so go figure. I'm not sure what your methodology is but I would have thought that isolating one lifestyle factor across disparate age groups would be highly problematic...

    Yes, could I post it from the U.S.? Not sure if you want Yank sperm though. Do I get some lab materials for the sample? (Videos, Magazines, etc.) I do see the value of this study as this has been debated among the scientists for years now.

    This study found significant fertillity problems if cycling 300km per week :shock:
    The team studied the semen values of 15 healthy Spanish triathletes, with an average age of 33. They were competing at both national and international level. Their training routines were analysed in detail, and particular note taken of the time they spent cycling each week. Sperm was taken after three days of sexual abstinence and analysed for their shape and form.

    “We found a statistically adverse correlation between sperm morphology and the volume of cycling training undertaken per week,” said Professor Vaamonde. “While all triathletes had less than 10% of normal-looking sperm, the men with less than 4% – at which percentage they would generally be considered to have significant fertility problems – were systematically covering over 300km per week on their bicycles.”

    Isn't that the usual technique for such samples? :wink:

    How about a 20 something who cycles and abuses his body, just for some extra balance :D
