You could get a very similar gear range with a single 36 or 38 on the front and an 11-34 cassette on the rear.

The 32/23 gives a bottom gear of 36.1", even a single 38t ring with an 11-32 would give 30.8", and that would still be a crazy gear to run for XC racing IMO.

A more sensible 36t ring with an 11-34 would give a bottom gear of 27.5", and the number of places you'd spin out 36/11 are few and far between!
  • Interesting old thread...my brother now owns this bike :)
Now has a cheap pair of Bombers on, DT Swiss wheels and Hayes Stroker Carbon disc brakes. Currently weighs 24.9lbs and rides great!

I do wonder if this ever got raced, and if it now has a triple/wider cassette/modern forks/discs on it :-)

So light it stays upright by itself!

Got a similar build, similar colours too. My frame is 1.3kg to start, but my new wheels are more Trail than XC, so...Getting my older/lighter ones sorted asap.

    Find a Thudbuster makes a great difference after 1.5 - 2 hrs...

Never raced by my bro! Has the same 2x front rings but now with a 9sp MTB cassette.

great looking bike, looks like it's tailored specifically to what you ride and looks very quick.
carbon rigid fork would be quite light i think
