Michelin Pro 3 Race - have a 4mm hole after 10 miles!

Just picked up a new bike and it came with MIchelin Pro 3 Race tyres, i was planning to swap it for something ultra puncture resistant as its my commuting bike but in my 5 mile ride home from collecting it I managed to get a puncture and its infact caused a 3-4mm hole in the tyre.

Is this at all repaireable, can it be filled to stop crap from going in it ?

Also will these tyres be worth anything to anyone to sell as they have only done 5-10 miles but happen to have the small hole on the front tyre.

Reckon you'd get at least 30 quid for them, whack 'em on ebay if i were you. I believe you can use superglue to repair cuts in tyres, not tried it myself though.

who would pay 30 quid for used tyres - with one tyre having a hole in it? Ribble will sell a pair unused for as low as about 46 quid.

I'd suggest only about 10 quid for the good used tyre and zero value for the damaged one....unless you don't tell the buyer of the damage which would be, dishonest.

Put 'em on ebay, i'd be willing to bet money that he'd get more than a tenner.....

Unless maybe you happen to be after a lightly used set of PR3's

my pr3s are fine - don't need any more for now and certainly not damaged ones

if 30 quid is the going rate for these, obviously the greater fool theory is in operation

I was watching Giordana Tenax on ebay, they sold for 4 quid less than you can get them from in the link the seller provided :? Many fools out there on the bay

ha just found a tint slit on the back one too!! after 5-10 miles thats awful, they are coming off today if anyone would like them for £10 for the pair

What tyres do you think i should replace them with, i need something ultra tough as will be commuting 150 miles a week outright speed etc not a real issue, are gatorskins any good ?

Michelin Kryllion carbons would be the obvious choice from what i've read on here

Think I will just go for gator skins, as used Conti Sport Contacts on my MTB bike for commuting and found them brilliant

I love my Pro Race 3's, but yes they aren't that bombproof on crap roads
I had a small slice on my front tyre several weeks ago after riding through some broken glass in the road :evil: . I used a coctail stick covered in superglue to fill in the slice and it's been fine. I've done over 700 miles since and no failure.

I'd never pay full price for them again though because even though they feel nice they are weak, my last set went when i skidded a bit after overcooking a corner down cheddar gorge. Didn't even skid that far and was right down to the canvass :x

i use gators and they are very very puncture resistant. they are 700 x 25. shame you couldnt wait a few weeks as i'll be getting shot of a pair with only 700 miles on em but have to wait for my Ultremo R1s

Yep, I do the same, I got 2000+ miles out of mine and just changed them this afternoon, a bit squared off, but perfectly serviceable.

The trick is to run them at 110 psi on the rear and 105 on the front, less risk of a pinch puncture and faster on smooth road.

Filling with superglue really does extend the life of them as well.
