pain in the wrist

hi, i seem to be getting a pain in my left wrist quite a lot. Today, from riding down some steps, yesterday from changing gear using my thumb, and the day before hitting a jump. I was just wondering if this sounds like bad technique or a problem with my wrist. It is always in my left wrist which makes me think a trip to the doctors may be in need. Though its not a strong or constant pain, just a bit unerving when it occurs.

To start try rotating the bars or controls.
Also some grips and gloves can take the pressure of the ulnar nerve.0 -
ok, i will give them ago. thanks.0

I've read that the powerball can help strengthen your wrist/cure pains in it, I'm having the same problem as you but think it was caused by having my forks (stupidly) locked out because I had been cycling on the road, then headed to the trails and went over a jump and landed heavy on one side knackering my wrist. Thinking about buying a powerball to give it a try.0

oh nice, my housemate has one of them, think i will go and steal it. Cheers.0

Go to the doctors and get it x-rayed, to rule out a proper injury. Then try the rotating the bars etc. Just out of interest do you have you shifters on the inside or outside of your brakes? I have knackered scapoids and like to have brakes inboad with not too much reach using a single finger and shifters neasest my grips it took me ages to get the set up right have a play about see what works.-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford? :roll:0 -
i have (from stem to end) gears first which i don't like because i 'have' to use 2 fingers to brake. But if i change them then i would have to reach a bit less for the gears which would just be weird. Something to try though.0

This is how I run my bikes
like I said before just try stuff see what feels right there is very little that is right or wrong for everyone, bike shops just put the gears on the inside so it looks neater and the rotation angle is for the same reason.[/code]-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Yeah you definately want to rule out an actual injury before working your wrist out or trying to build strength in it, this is the worst thing you can do if it is already currently injured..0 -
Having buggered both of my wrists recently I done 3 things to help.
1. Got some Ergon grips for my commute/training bike.. Helps massively!
2. Used my powerball. You can really feel it working and your wrist feels much better after, but they are a pain to get started.
3, brought a motogrip trainer from CRC, 40lb black one. Do this everyday and whilst you can't feel the results straight away it took me from not being able to handle a 2 hour ride to 1 race and 2 trips to wales in 2 weeks (afan & cody-y-brenin). Didn't have any problems and it helps with arm pump for those DH trails.0 -
Yep, playing with your balls does improve wrist strength.0
