Is this a bad bike for a road bike newbie?

I've read a lot of threads on this forum and everybody seems to swear by their high performance, expensive bikes and I can understand that.
But I'm a beginner with road bikes and just getting myself in a good state of fitness really. Plus the budget is very limited right now.

Are 'Carerra' and 'Halfords' taboo names around here? :)

Thanks

Best first bike would be something 2nd hand, much better value for money!
Speak to some local cycling clubs, someone is usually selling a bike so they can upgrade.
This means you will usually get a better bike for the same money.

If feeling brave you could try eBay too, some real bargains there but it can be a bit of a minefield.

    That.

Carrera is OK, Halfords/Hellfrauds generally isn't

Haha...Halfords is a hit or miss. I personally found my branch (well should I say the closest branch that does Boardman) very good. However, the bike servicing is really annoying as u have to book them well in advance. I would go to my LBS but it's a lot more expensive and not sure if it's worth it (eg went into a pot hole several months ago n got 2 punctures so wanted to get it fixed, realigned n serviced. My LBS wanted around £90 for it all incl parts bt Halfords did it for £25 -I've gt a care plan so jst payed for parts)..

To summarise, Halfords can be decent...
