have loads of music and loads of has been ripped to mp3 BUT this means the track listings are usually the number of the track in the album. e.g.:-
01 Abba ..... .mp3
01 Kaiser Chiefs .....mp3
01 Micheal Jackson .....mp3

is there a way I can strip off JUST the first 2 digits of the filename, without having to do this manually for each and every file ?

Will FreeRip do it? I know it will handle batch ID3 tagging but not sure about file naming.

Why on earth would you want to do that? Surely it's better to have them stored in album order?

10 minute project with your coding language of choice...

or as the man says, sort your mp3s another way.

want to do it because when I add them to a USB stick to plug into my car it just plays in alpha/numeric order which is really annoying as it just flips between about 3 artists for the first 40 songs then it starts to become more 'random'

Sounds like it might be a problem with either the playback device, the ID3 tags or the way the files are stored (eg on my pc mine are \mp3\artist\album).

Is it a car with a factory fit USB port? If so maybe someone with the same one can offer some tips, as they seem to have their own quirks

What are you all talking about?

I've got an MP3 player from my son for my birthday, and can just about turn it on!!!!

    78's, 33 1/3. 45 singles, 8 Track, Betamax, tapes. Now THOSE were the days...SIMPLES!

Vinyl...please come back...all is forgiven, lol.

    Download this:

You can reformat mp3 tags and filnenames anyway you want. I would check they are tagged properly first including the track number before altering the file names. Also copy some files to another folder first to learn how to use it. Dont use it on your actual files until you know what you want to do and how to do it. It can strip all your music file tags at once, which may p$ss you off. :) Enjoy.
