So heres where I am
http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12703140
Anyway, plucked up courage to go on my first group ride tonight. went off with the inters group who were all way way lighter and mostly way younger than myself apart from a super fit lady who had already warmed up with a 40 mile loop :!:
Well it was all good, stayed at the back of the pack (14 riders in total) averaged just under 17mph with loads of slow bits due to setting off from a town centre and had no probs at all.
Guess I will be a regular now

PS Maybe recovering with a homemade curry and two bottles of wine with the wife is not ideal0

That's great, mate.
You've made considerable progress, just need to be more selective with recovery diet!Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
Well done mate
At least the curry was homemade not takeaway!!
I'm sooooooo jealous (about the run!) I cant wait till I can go on my first club run. Still need to get the base miles in first and get my average speed up, hopefully will happen as the weight comes off, so for now, gotta keep on ridin!!

I have been stuck in this week too after having my tonsils out mate. Painkillers every four hours, enough to make you rattle (three different kinds and it still hurts!!) and swallowing is hard enough let alone gulping air on a bike ride... Got another weeks r and r. Looks like it will be three weeks off for me eventually!
Watching the Giro and it's like real punishment... and I can see my bike from here too... Withdrawl symptoms are setting in... Though it will soon be time for my late afternoon sleep!
Remember to take the full course mate of anti b's, you will soon be out on the road again.0 -
Went out again last night.
seemed much faster though the avg was only just over 1mph higher.
Was doing early 20's most of the time
Time I cycled back home I was knacked
not sure of the maths to work at the ride avg
Actually I cycled to the start for 4 miles at 16.5 and at the end of the ride of 18 miles the avg had stepped up to 18mph
Does that make the 18 miles 19.5 avg?0 -
I think that makes the 14 miles a 18.43mph avg speed.
If you cycle 4 miles at 16.5mph then those 4 miles are 1.5mph short of being 18mph. So 4 miles x 1.5mph = 6. If you spread that 6 over the remaining 14 miles that makes 0.43mph. Add that to the 18mph average and that's 18.43mph.
But if you did 4 miles in addition to 18 miles rather than as part of 18 miles the average for those 18 miles would be 18.33mph because the 6 would need to be spread over 18 miles instead of 14.
I thinkScottish and British...and a bit French0 -
haha
Yes 4 miles at 16.5 then 18 miles and avg went to 18mph, rode home for another 4 miles and the avg had dropped to 17.9
Phew0
