Replacement Bike advice

End of last year I purchased my first proper 'road bike', a Specialized Secteur Sport. The bike has done me well and I have started to extend the miles (40's on a regular basis), now looking to do my first sportive.
Unfortunately I was taken out yesterday by a car driver entering the roundabout who did not see me - very lucky I was wearing a helmet or it would have been worse than bruising and grazes!! The bike however appears fatal.
I am now considering the replacement, I have enjoyed the Secteur, I had to raise the stem for a comfy ride as I started to get cyclists palsy (tingly fingers) and did not like the Shiman Sora shifters.
I will have up to a grand to play with for the new bike, I want something for year round use, commuting to work (30 mile round trip), which is comfortable for 60-100 mile sportives. Living in the hilly end of the country it needs a reasonable spread of gears!
I am after some suggestions please,

if you had to raise the stem on a bike with such a long head tube and relaxed geometry, you will struggle to get better than the secteur elite. Are you sure your bike fit is right. im a big lad and dont suffer with tingly fingers.

plenty of bikes around a grand and i guess 105 should be th aim at that price point

    Ditto,
you are looking at a Sportiff style of road-bike rather than race style.
Giant and Trek make similar with more tyre clearance and higher headtube.

Often Sportiff bikes lack mudguard eyelets. Audax/light touring road bikes generally come equipped with rack and mudguard eyelets and a tad more tyre clearance but at similar weight.

There is a spectrum of bikes between touring and race.

Thanks, been looking on internet today to narrow down the options, started at ten bikes and think I have it down to 4 - Felt Z85, Trek 1.5, Cube Peleton & Cannondale CAAD 8! I do love the looks of the Ribble Sportive though!!
I just have to get out and test ride them now, be a few days until the bruising settles!
