Headed over to Mallory last night for another crack. Think my legs were still a bit tired from the MTB race on Sunday though.
Fairly windy last night and 2 guys escaped early on and kept away. Kept trying to go with anyone that looked like they wanted to make a break and with 10 laps to go felt pretty tired. The wind just stopped you in your tracks anywhere near the front and race became a bit stop start. Was better positioned (not great but better) as things wound up and then...just as the sprint was getting into full swing all I could see were sparks and dust as a few people came down in front of me. All happened very quick and ended up with the rear locked up as I skidded past the bikes and bodies!! Managed to get down to the canvas on my rear Pro 3 in the process:-( Lost all my momentum so cruised in towards the back of the bunch
Starting to get a bit more of a feel of who to watch for next time though so will see what happens next week

Sounds like you did pretty well - managed to try and get in the breaks and kept a good enough position in the bunch to contest the sprint had there not been a crash - that's pretty good going. There's always an element of luck.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

    Actually really enjoying it.
It is quite hard to get used to the tactics though which is no bad thing. Bit like a big game of chess but a bit more tiring :D
Apart from very close to the front the MTB and CX races end up with the fastest/fittest riders ahead of those less quick. In the crits it feels far more open and a lot of people at least appear to be in contention with a lap to go.
Should have started 30 years ago!!!.......actually probably a bit earlier

That was my first road race - what an experience! As you say it was quite stop-start and i kept losing position in the bunch and ending up at the back - something to work on. Made the fatal mistake of trying to get off the front during one of the lulls - felt great for about half a lap, then blew. The pack then flew past and i couldn't get back on - school boy error! :? Glad you weren't one of the riders that went down, that looked a bit nasty.
