SRAM Shifter problems

Folks,

Just bought a brand new SRAM Rival shifter and the left hand/front mech gear lever appears to be broken: it does not travel back to its slot but falls onto the brake lever. It also does not travel out cleanly but sort of wavers all over the place.

Is there a simple fix to this or do I return this ?

    Have you adjusted the reach of the lever at all?

    I adjusted mine so that they were closer in and found that the shifter lever was catching on the brake lever. Check that first...

    If that doesn't fix it.. it sounds like a problem that needs to be properly looked at.
