Prescription Glasses Under Goggles?

Hey guys, I've just started to do some downhill and alpine riding, problem is that I can't wear my glasses underneath my goggles. And yes, I hate contacts, they're like sand... :)

I'm -4.25,-4.5, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I remember browsing though an old MBUK issue (Oct 08) and in the little bit that Collin's boy wrote on the Mega, I noticed Clive Forth wearing glasses under his goggles if that's any help.

If anyone could drop me a shop or website, frame names or whatever just to point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful sirs (and madams)!

Oakley make some goggles designed to fit glasses under.

I know the O Frames are one of them and they are amzing. I used to use the ordinary O Frames (don't need glasses) and they had a geat veiw.

I don't use them now because I use Crowbars. The O frames do ocasionally fog/steam up but really only when its really cold and wet

Cool, cheers for that :) Thing is more than looking for goggles, I'm looking for glasses tbh. I was thinking for going down the route of one of those inserts in clear lensed sunglasses and putting them underneath but I honestly don't know, it's a bit hit and miss :)

Check out the prescription sports glasses from Optilabs.

People seem to speak very highly of them.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.
  • I have modified some Bolle Shark ski goggles to fit over my last years glasses. I wear these glasses as they are perfectly good for riding and I don’t want to wreck my current ones should I fall off. After fitting and adjusting the goggles take them off carefully with the glasses still in position. You should find them trapped by the foam. Get a scalpel or very sharp blade and make a nick in the foam to take the pressure off the side bits of your glasses frame and the glasses and goggles should fit together.

This works for me but as glasses vary so much you need to try before you buy to make sure they fit. Ski goggles are also available as OTG 'over the glasses' size but I have found the above mod with a blade works - for me.

I have a pair of these http://www.kontrolsports.co.uk/product_details.asp?item=7 You get a clip in frame for prescription lenses that goes inside the sunglasses. They arent perfect if they steam up or get sweat or rain on them you have 2 sets of lenses to clean but if like me you have a prescription that keeps changing its cheaper to get the RX clip in insert changed than getting an expensive pair of prescription sunglasses changed.

I tried gogs that went over my specs but they were a nightmare my glasses would slip and there would be the ballache of taking off the gogs getting my specs right then fitting the gogs back on then finding my specs werent quite right. I gave up just before I lost it and stamped on the gogs and specs

  • I Use kontrolsports as well. Cheap and cheerful. Like alot of glasses though They become a pain in the arse if it's warm and raining. I ended up riding with glasses off the other month as it was easier to see without them ( just). It's the only time thats ever happened though.

Not really advice, but, how long did you try contacts for? I couldn't live without mine now, but at first they were hell, like you said, sand, or someone had just removed all moisture from my eye. If you only tried dailys get hold of some 2 week ones, considerably more comfortable. Contacts take some getting used to, might be a few weeks where you can only wear them for a few hours at a time, but soon enough they become natural. Just a thought.
  • Bear this in mind when wearing longer term lenses.

I can't have dailies so i'll stick to glasses

My mate works in an optician. He said he could sort me out with goggles with a prescription in them.

Think it was Adidas ones, let me know if you want more info on them and I'll ask him.

What put me off was the thought of how dirty and scratched goggles get so I went with contacts. Sounds like the goggles might be a better option for you though.....
