Two bike rides + two crashes+ in two days = 3 inch patch of skin from right elbow left on the road + bruiseing to both legs + sore left wrist+ cut left palm+ both knees bleeding+ sore right ankle+ various other small cuts, grazers and bruises= going out to buy a helmet!

Those spindly jobbies on the handlebars are brake levers.

Buying a helmet will not increase your skill on a bike ;)

But it may mean the lack of skill is less dangerous !

Brakes don't work when your airborne. Brand new Maxis tyres slid on landing lol.
    I hurt everywhere.
I have learnt my lesson. I will never go on the bike without a helmet again, it could have been so much worse.
Going to spend some time looking at what helmet threads. Have around 40 quid to spend.

Every time you go out for a ride without a helemt on, God kills a kitten!

Then you strap those kittens on to your head to form a lovely soft fluffy comfortable helmet.

crashing is good, means your going out of your comfort zone so you can improve

So is nearly crashing the best of both worlds?

I've had 2 crashes in the last 2 months... both resulting is a massive dent in my helmet. Yes its cost a bit to replace them each time but more importantly yes I would definately not be typing now if I was not wearing a lid! (No kittens were killed either!!! )

Apart from the pain the worst part is when your wife/partner says you are 'too old to do that.' And makes you feel like a child being told off by the parents. :o

lol, I know what you mean! I got zero sympathy when the wife found out I'd dislocated my elbow!

Although it is biodegradable, you really should try not to litter. It's not acceptable to leave anything behind after a ride.

Finally had to admit defeat and go to hospital this morning.
Damage = damaged ligaments in left wrist. I'm wearing a thumb spiker for this.
damaged ligaments in right elbow. Arm in a sling.
cuts being treat with antibiotics due to infection.
result is no bike, no kick boxing, no jujitsu, no weight training, no running and worst of all no playstation
    also no work :D
what the hell am i supposed to do for a week while all this craps on my arms. can't even reach to pick my nose.
just one finger on the keyboard.
Anyway, second lesson learned. IF YOU HAVE AN OF,F GET IT CHECKED OUT.

A mate of mine hurt his arm six weeks ago, then he went to hospital to get it checked out last week. now he's going to be in a cast for 6 weeks, oh the irony
  • With that injury list it seems you need everything BUT a helmet.

Yes. a bit silly not to get it checked. It only costs a little time.
i tried to work through it but have probably just caused more damage to a maybe simple to fix injury.

I put it down to martial arts that saved my head. Alot of learning how to fall that becomes instinct. Oh, and some luck.

Jui Jitsu provides a lot more protection than a helmet, I thankfully use both, and elbow pads, and knee pads, sometimes hip pads too...

It is nice doing a huge crash, landing on the pads and rolling it out.

Not much more fun than a mega crash that doesn't injure you.
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?

I've never pulled a better roll than when I got taken off by a car in traffic. Somehow dived out and back up before realising what was going on. Thanks to 3 years of angry men in pyjamas shouting at me to land properly!
