well, i do have money, but i can only afford to spend as little as posible.

its gonna need a new freehub, whole hub, or whatever, but im gonna need something new, thats for sure. i dont mind a whole new wheel build if its the only option.

my LBS are offering a Deore hub for £30, CRC have an XT (same model) for £45. do which of the two do i go for? lbs is faster, but will need a new wheel build, which is something im not massivly confident on, and takes ages. XT hub will take longer to come and costs more, i can just swap all the insides over.

what do i do?!? how do i do?
help!!

i need it all sorted by ealry thurs afternoon whatever.

thanks in advance

What's actually bust? Just the freehub?
  • I think this was asked earlier... ya may want to do a search..

But from what I remember, if you get the exact same matching hub, you can swap out the knackered freehub with the new one and keep the rest for spares.

    all shimano bodies are swapable.
just take a body off another shimano wheel and you will be right.

assuming the wheel and the races are good ^this^ is usually the most cost effective action.

tbh if you really wanted to you could swap the race in the hub over as well.

so nick, your saying that i can use the freehub and other internals from a deore?!
if so thats perfect, i can get a deore from my LBS pretty cheap, then just swap over all the insides this afternoon!

i do need to makw sure though, before i splash the cash, any shimano hub's insides will fit my XT M756?!

hey nick, would the cups, cones and bearings fit too? as they could prob use an overhall while im at it, and new stuff would smoothen it all out nicely.

I thought cups were permanently fixed to the hub shell? How do you get them out?

drift them out. with lots of CARE. after having removed the outer metal bit of the sealing system. not worth doing but can be done in an emergency.

OK, i know you said they can, BUT LBS just said that you cant use just any cones in an XT hub, as the XT ones are a bit diferent. and that the only bit from a deore or similar that would work in my XT hub is the freehub. and one LBS said that not even that would work.

so, FINALLY, just to clarify, CAN ALL THE INSIDES, CONES AND BEARINGS, AND FREEHUB INCLUDED BE USED IN MY XT m756 HUB?!

thanks, im just really skint at the mo, and wasting 30-40 squid aint an option.

use the balls and the cones and the freebody from the deore with bits you have.

the only difference is the surface treatment on the races.
