Thought on doping and avoiding positive tests

I was thinking about this the other day:

most of the drugs the cyclists take can only be detected for short periods of time and are primarily taken out-of-competition. With random testing, it's probably a bit hard and a crap shoot to time your doping so you're not caught.

However, the past few years, the UCI has greatly increased the number of out-of-competition tests. So, I'm wondering if they're often enough that now cyclists can dope only after tests and still get the full benefit. In other words:

1. Cyclist waits for tester to surprise them (maybe they get tested 1 every 2-3 weeks?)
2. Tester draws blood, urine and leaves
3. Doper imeadiately dopes knowing the tester won't show up again for at least a few weeks

Sometimes they can get a few tests a week- and then none for weeks

I think Levi Leipheimer got tested twice in 24 hours before the tour last year? That could have been by different authorities though.

The authorities are always one step behind anyway, so as long as you take the very latest gear you should be ok.
  • If we are to believe the current situation in cycling, these tests can be cheated, results kept quiet and missed OOC tests covered up.

Unless you get hit by a surprise new test or retrospective testing or biological passport.

Pay offs, hushed up test results, these things all happened in the past and probably still happen now.

Biological passport cannot be used as proof of cheating, its suspicion isnt it?

Couldnt find a link to the Leipheimer being tested twice but Fischer of Garmin was saying yesterday that he got tested twice within an hour by different organisations. Sees being woken up early as a lack of respect by idiots..

Not having a lie-in must be a bit annoying but the rest day does offer a good chance for people to take stuff IMO
