KMC chains come with a quicklink already in them! (Or are supposed to)God made the Earth. The Dutch made The Netherlands

Shimano makes the HG73 - not KMC - so it's not possible for you to have a KMC HG73 chain.0

You did know KMC makes Shimano chains?
But anyway if it's supplied as a Shimano chain it won't come with a quick link.
yes, but the point I'm making is - if it's an HG73, it won't say KMC on it.0 -
Are you saying that you want to put a powerlink in a new chain that is ALREADY
on the bike and working??? If your chain is already up and running on the bike DON'T
break it just to install a powerlink. That won't serve any purpose other than possibly an easier way to remove it for cleaning. Is that why you want to do this? For cleaning?
I guess that's the way people clean them nowdays. I haven't taken a chain off a bike, except to replace it, in years.0 -
just had a look
its a shimano HG-73.
one of the rivets is differnt from the rest, im assuming if i ever have to split the chain thats
the place i split?...i have a shimano chain tool
aplologies for the lack of knowledge. the reason i enquired about a power link was for easier cleaning and if the splits when out i thought having a powerlink makes it easier to fix?
thanks again0 -

As Dennis says "Why bother until you need to take it off".0 -
I added powerlinks to mine, makes cleaning/removal easier and isn't difficult to do.
Use your chaintool to knock out an existing pin, but you may also have to remove another pin, as the removable links attach to the thinner end of the link. (checkout youtube for examples)
I remove mine when travelling with the bike, and also have a different chain for racing that goes with my other wheels/cassette.0
