Rims and Tyres and Rock & Roll

I am getting a new bike from Halfords on the bike-to-work scheme
I’ve gone for the CX Boardman (cross county)
It comes with Mavic CXP22 rims – these are 15mm diameter (according to the Mavic website)
It also comes with 700 x 35 Ritchey tyres
On the face of it these tyres look too big for the rims –
This is based on the advice on Mavic website. They recommend tyre widths of 19mm to 28mm
Also http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html - says the tyres maybe too wide
I am going to change the tyres anyway, for the road – I was thinking of Conti Sport Contact.
I was going to get these in a 700 x 37
Is this a good idea?
Will the fit OK?
(Or should I go for a 700 x 32 or 700 x 28 instead. I don’t really want to go too narrow…)
Any advice?

38 on a 25 will be fine, I can't really see the point of dropping to 37's though, if 38's are too wide.....besides what you are looking at is recommendations, not 'musts'.
