Has anyone ridden this route at all, or does anyone have any suggestions for the journey.
Three of us will be doing the run in September to raise cash for an orphanage in Cambodia. Current thoughts are:
Day 1 Glasgow to Dumfries

Day 2 Dumfries to Hawes

Day 3 Hawes to Leeds

Any thoughts, comments or alternatives would be welcome.

many many years ago we used to ride from Glasgow to York on the Fair Friday to attend the York Rally every year.
Usual route was , Lanark, Biggar, Moffat, Lochmaben then back over to Lockerbie, follow down parrallel to M74 to Gretna, then Longtown, Brampton over to Alston to Barnard Castle, smaller roads then towards Scotch Corner, Middleton Tyas, Northalerton, Thirsk then onto to York Route form there into Leeds should be easy or I guess from Barnard Castle you could head Richmond > Ripon > Harrogate to Leeds.
maybe some food for thoughtfay ce que voudres0 -

Thanks for that. We'd thought of that route initially but we're now looking to stay west of the pennines, following the Eden Valley towards Kirkby Stephen and then climbing into Wensleydale. It seems to cut 6-800 feet of climbing.
Regarding the B road that runs next to the M74, what's it like to cycle down. I do a similar road alongside the A1(M) in West and North Yorkshire and it's about as good as you can get for cycling. ie, wide, well maintained, little traffic and relatively flat.
