hi peeps

my old man is getting back on his bike and i want to pimp it up a little bit for him.

the 25 year old shimano 600 brake lever hoods have given up the ghost and split.

i've spent hours trawling the net and cannot find any suppliers - not even on fleabay.

anybody know of anyone or somewhere that can supply a replacement set of no aero hoods?

cheers

    Try campyoldy.

I got spare Modolo brake hoods there, and the fellow was really helpful. They specalise in Campag mostly but they do stock a fair bit of general old spares.

I'm surprised you can't find anything on eBay. Keep checking back periodically, I've noticed a lot of old Shimano stuff for sale over the past couple of months.

    Is this what you're after?

    Non-aero hoods from Bicycle Supply.

They're in the US, I sourced a pair of gum hoods from them this time last year for some old Campag levers - didn't have any difficulties but can't remember how long it took them to arrive - you may wish to look elsewhere if it's urgent.

You can also try a cycle jumble, they are normally huge piles of old roady stuff really cheap, cause they haven't heard of Ebay yet. A pair of 600 levers pretty much NOS were about £20 IIRC

Because most of these hoods were made from natural, not synthetic rubber they have aged and perished in the last 20 years - they crack and crumble. Consequently, supply is reducing and prices going the other way - I recently got some NOS Galli ones from Campyoldy for a healthy £25. There's only one guarantee that prices will only go one way, particularly as there is an increase in restoring early 1980s bikes.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • cheers for the recomendations peeps
