To much hose?

I've been thinking about cutting the hose length down on my new Elixirs. I bought a bleed kit so I could bleed them once I'd cut down. Thing is they are nice & solid at the moment & certainly don't need bleeding. Should I just leave the hose length alone for the time being?

Cool. I was a bit concerned about that big loop that sticks out on the rear hose. I reckon I could cut a good 10cm from that. Probably the same with the front. But I guess as long as it's not a problem to have that much extra length I might just live with it until the brakes need a bleed .......... or I upgrade to that lovely Goodridge hose :P
  • On the front?

looks perfectly fine! I wouldn't bother with all the hassle to cut 3cm off it!

The front does not need to be shortened it just requires routing better so it sits more centre, maybe a cable tie on the fork brace. Don’t go riding in the woods or forest with it like that as it will have you off.

I'm not exactly with you there. I have a cable tie on the fork brace (you can see this on the second photo). I don't see what else I can do with the routing on the front. With the back I just routed the cable as direct as possible, which left a fair amount of house out front unfortunately.

I would put a 2nd cable tie over the fork brace just past centre to bring that big loop sticking out in so it won’t get caught on anything. Ideally you should have them following the same about slack as your shifter cables.

They will get snagged up on something having them sticking out like that, if it’s while out riding or them just getting caught up on something while moving the bike around. It could be false economy leaving them like that if they get ripped out the sockets and you have to but new hose and fittings.

I do see people out riding with them like that , myself I would not as it looks like a half job done, if you have the olives and inners it’s not hard to cut fit and bleed, or get the local bike shop to do it as they will not charge much for 1 hours work.

I don't know. Looking at this pic of the wicked looking new Orebea Rallon, and the amount of cable it has, sticking out like Jordan's tits, and I don't think I've got much to worry about with my extra length!

  • it looks fine to me...

Only my NS I used a fairly loose cable tie to attach both of the brake cables together where they crossed.

It meant they didn't really move about as much but still had a bit of free movement if needed.

Kept it all nice and tidy and if you use a black cable tie, you won't notice it.

Nice idea, bb_08. Think I'll do that & wait until the brakes need a bleed before messing around with the hoses.

+1 it'll reduce the chance of anything catching on it as it might flap a bit on rough stuff, otherwise fine
