Dawes 401?

I have already posted a question regarding parts, but didn't think to ask what people think of the Dawes 401 hybrid?
I am not only new to the forum, but new to cycling in general. Obviously I had bike when I was younger but just for fun and ust the usual cheapies off the shelf.
I decided some time ago that I was going to take up cycling and decided to do so using a decent bike. I have been lucky enough (I think) to have been offered a Dawes 401 hybrid, although it does need a new crank and cables.
What are your thoughts on this bike?
