Upto £450 for a second hand bike - What say you?

Hello again people, in the summer I am looking to get rid of my Claud Butler Levante and replace it with something more road focused. I should have a budget of up to £450 which I won't go over (unless its a complete steal - I'm a tight git). I've been looking around and checking out online reviews etc and think that a Scott Speedster S20/30 offers a lot of bike for the money second hand. I want something with a good groupset and frame, not too fussed about wheels etc as I'd probably replace them later as and when money permits. I'd love a Cannondale CAAD framed bike but I think my budget will only stretch to CAAD 3's which is a bit older than I really want.
Does anyone on here have any personal experience with a Scott Speedster S20/30?
Any other recomendations?
Thanks guys.
Joe

Not sure what size you are looking for but there's a Scott S20 on Ebay at this very moment!
However, there is a recent lengthy thread on here where someone didn't exactly get what he was expecting from an Ebay purchase, so may be worth reading that first!
The trouble with buying secondhand, where you have very specific requirements - and there's nothing wrong with either of those, then you will have to be patient. Could be months before the ideal bike comes along. I'd be inclined to keep my options as wide as possible.
The most important thing is that any bike actually fits you, otherwise your hard earned budget is wasted. Incidentally don't forget to budget for shorts, jerseys, shoes and possibly pedalsSpecialized Venge S Works

You will probably get a bike that RRPed at £600-£1000 depending on age.
Something like this if you are lucky

Thanks for the replies guys, I just thought of the Scott because I read reviews that its a good frame and the groupsets on them aren't too shabby for the price.
I have already seen the one on ebay but unfortunately I'm 6'2" (although not very leggy, 33" inside leg).
Would people say the Boardman Comp is a better purchase? I was tempted to beg steal and borrow to find a Boardman Team (non-carbon) seeing as it has everything the Carbon has (minus the carbon :P ). I open to suggestions, I just set the Scott as the sort of bike I'm looking for.
Cheers, Joe
(p.s. I already have shoes, pedals, shorts and a top )0 -

I have a Scott Speeder 20 and it's an awesome little bike. Nice mix of mid range gear, carbon forks/seat post and a nice alloy frame. I can throw the bike around and it responds beautifully.http://www.youtube.com/user/Eurobunneh - My Youtube channel.0

I think you should beg and steal. if you want an s20 its probably gonna be nearer £600 for a 2009 model. I picked up a 2009 Allez elite as a winter bike for £550 on ebay in showroom condition. nice bike and is a really good ride. I like it as much as my scott CR1 which is a mesure of how good they areBurning Fat Not Rubber

The teams normally sell for less than that (but more than 450);

And I've seen a couple of S20's for £450 but they have all been 56cm frames.
Cheers people,
