Budget Cyclocross/commuter

Hi
I'm thinking of a cyclocross as a commuter/tourer (commute is 6 miles A/B-roads and then 2 miles on an unmade cyclepath), as many of these seem to have mudguard & frame lugs.
Is this a good idea or would a normal roadbike or hybrid be better?
Thinking of the Kona Jake or maybe Specialized Tricross. The Raleigh Airtight U6X looks good value but no reviews of it so not sure if it has the necessary lugs on.
thanks
Dave

no, it's a good idea.
I run a CX frame as a trainer/commuter/do-it-all bike (Airborne Carpe Diem)
Have a look at the Planet X Uncle John too. There are plenty options out there, some more CX-orientated, some more tourer/hybrid-orientated.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Or the Planet X Kaffenback. The geometry is more like their alu road bike than the cyclo-x specific geometry of the Uncle John but with clearance for tyres up to about 32mm and mudguard/rack eyelets. Good value and solid, a good bike0
