This is one for anyone that owns a Boardman Road Bike, where do you get it serviced ?

Do you take it to your LBS or take it back to Halfords? Some Halfords stores have a bad reputation but are supposed to have specially trained mechanics for these bikes ?

Better off to learn to do stuff yourself - its really easy and a set of allen keys do pretty much everything ? I've had bikes for 30 years and never put it in for service. Check chain for wear, adjust brake cables - that's about all my bike needs !

+2 DIY with the caveat it's always good to keep on good terms with your trusted LBS ! Get yourself a good bike maintenance book (road bike specific - if that takes your fancy) and plenty of good advice (loads on here 8) ).

+3 My Boardmans never been back to Halfords and only been spoken of in an lbs.

There really isn't much on a bike that is beyond an average joes capability of fixing or adjusting, few tools and the internet plus occasionally some patience is all thats required.

thanks for the feedback, I guess my problem is I just dont have the confidence to make adjustments

What books would you recommend for a beginner and how much do you need to spend on tools to get started ?
